The Project:

Four amazing years ago our family attended a Douglas County Canine Rescue Adoption Day. We went home with-Leia.

Yes, we knew going in that we wanted to meet her. We had no idea that the moment they put her in our arms just how much are hearts would melt!

I had chosen the name Leia after seeing her adoption photo. Leia aka-Princess Leia (YES-we are Star Wars FANS!) and I thought it would be cute with our other dog-Lucky. No one could know that she would strive everyday to live up to her namesake. For those not in the know-Leia (played by the late Carrie Fisher) is both a Princess and a General! And the only one feisty enough to capture the heart of hunky (Harrison Ford) Han Solo. We love you Princess-General and everyday that we get to live under your command.

I was overjoyed when the Whimsey image of 'Doggie Ice Cream' appeared and coincided with Leia's 'gotcha-day'.

Now, coloring hair is a thorn in my hand (lol) and animal hair can be just as burdensome. Yet, I persist! "10,000 hrs can make you an expert"-so I keep trying. I don't give up because every image, every card is a small step closer to achieving what I consider to be better. Better for me! (Hence-Tia's Tips).

Remember-flicking is your friend when it comes to hair!

My dogs love fro-yo! I make it myself and all their food. Letting art mimic life, I topped this treat with a big yummy blueberry!

Peanut Butter Banana Frozen Yogurt:

  • 16 ounces plain Greek yogurt

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons natural unsweetened almond butter (or peanut butter - without xylitol, which is toxic to dogs)

  • 1 large over-ripe banana

Put all of the ingredients in the bowl of a food processor; blend until combined and creamy. Gently fold in 1/4 C Blueberries (fresh or frozen). Pour into silicone cupcake cups or other silicone molds and let freeze/set up for 3 hours. Leftovers can be stored for up to a month. You can keep the yogurt in the silicone mold (covered), or pop out of the molds and keep them in an airtight container in the freezer.
