Christmas In July

Tia's Tips: “It’s surprising how much free time and productivity you gain when you lose the busyness in your mind.” -Brittany Burgunder

If you're getting started on holiday cards early-don't get overwhelmed with the idea of the holiday, just keep doing what you know-make a card and before you know it, you are!

THE PROJECT:

This is the first time I have tried making Christmas cards in JULY! I thought it would be harder to get "in the spirit", but once I put all my emotions and glee over the holiday aside and focused on 'creating', I got into a rhythm and have been able to get several cards done for both DT that I work on!

I love being a part of Polka Dot Orchard's design team! The owner Jessica Pickeral is a hoot to know and work with! She just finished designing a large collection of the most adorable Pooh Bear digital stamps!!! I've already posted several designs on the blog. I had been asking her if she was going to do any designs for 'Christmas in July' and she just didn't think she was going to get time to and the VOILA...'Ungloomy Christmas'! How cute is Eeyore decorating his little Christmas Tree?!?

I really wanted Eeyore's sentiment and the words of the background paper to reflect each other-which is why the holly-tag isn't the full length of the card. I have no patience for drawing 'snow' with a Gelly Roll pen and prefer to flick white acrylic paint with a toothbrush.

I really like both of these cards and did a little sneak by using this stamp set for Christmas! At Christmas is seems like Poinsettias are everywhere, and I wanted a floral card, but not necessarily a Poinsettia. So when I saw this set in the store I liked the idea of white flowers popping off of red and green coffee cups. I fancy cut out the red cup and utilized scraps that I matted along with the kraft card-base. I used my Gelly Roll pen to create white stitch marks because the card was feeling a little flat. I like the look of kraft and wood with my holidays, I think it brings in a warm earthy feeling. I was not ready to fussy cut another cup and wanted another look. I lucked out that the Merry Christmas sentiment from the 'Very Berry Christmas' set fit into a circle die-so I went with a circle. Sometimes I am not so luck and have to reprint several time to get the right size orientation. **Hint: print 1st on cheaper copy paper (front & back) before using your good cardstock! Thinking of you-was a little too large, but I was fine with it hanging off the card base a bit. I also used a rectangular stitched die to cut the red cardstock base.
