Tia's Tips: A rite of childhood was the making, giving and receiving of Valentine's. As adults and crafters, we should be able to experience that same joy! We've got better colors, paper and a multitude of other tools & products at our disposal. So take a little time to rediscover that childhood thrill of creating and crafting that little bit of magic to tell someone-You LOVE THEM!
Bokeh Technique:
Bo·keh /ˈbōkā/ noun
1.the visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image, especially as rendered by a particular lens. The word comes from the Japanese word boke, which means “haze” or “blur.”
I started with an A2 sized piece of cardstock. I selected Distress Ink colors in:
Lumberjack Plaid; Picked Raspberry and Kitsch Flamingo.
Next I created the 'blur' effect. This can be done with a sturdy piece of cardstock or lightweight cardboard. You want to create holes of varying sizes. I have done this before using circle paper punches. This time I achieved the look with a polka dot die from Gina Marie Designs. Prickley Pear Stamps has a stencil-Cosmic Music Set that would produce the various circles desired.
With a foam sponge or dauber use white pigment ink to fill in circles randomly over the card. On some circles use more or less ink to vary the intensity of the "blur". Overlap circles and just HAVE FUN!
CARD DESIGN While my background was drying I stamped and embossed the "LOVE YOU". I embossed with gold embossing powder from WOW! I decided the letters could use a punch of color. I went back colored them with COPICS in an ombre' color style that matched the distress inks. COPIC Colors Used: R29; R35; RV14; RV04; RV02
I thought it was more fun to cut the 'U' from 'YOU' and pop it up on foam tape and attach it to the heart from the set. Again, I stamped and embossed the heart in gold and cut it out. I trimmed the final card down to 4 x 5.25 and adhered it to gold glitter paper in the A2 size. All the words were given dimension by popping up with foam tape. From my heart to yours, I hope you remember the fun of making Valentines!
